Dish 1
Dish 1 — Foie gras with beef and fruit

Quite an interesting dish with good texture and flavour. It had the right balance, with a nice mix of strong flavours that still worked well together.

Dish 2
Dish 2 — Sweet onion purée

A dish made completely from onions. It was blended smoothly, and the sweet onion sauce was a great complement. It wasn’t too strong and made for another great starter.

Dish 3
Dish 3 — Beef leg with soy and vinegar

A little on the chewy side, but as the third dish it was still great overall. The jelly on top had a similar texture to the meat and complemented it well.

Dish 4
Dish 4 — Beef cheek

Melt-in-your-mouth beef cheek. I would’ve liked a little more acidity from a larger slice of citrus, and the soup was on the weaker side for a beef soup — it tasted more watery than rich.

Dish 5
Dish 5 — Beef with mushrooms over magnolia leaf

While it was a very well-cooked steak, prepared right in front of us, our mushrooms came out cold. Beyond that, it was really just a good piece of steak.

Dish 6
Dish 6 — Shabu-shabu beef with sesame sauce

This was shabu-shabu beef, but it really felt like beef soaked in lukewarm water. It had practically no flavour. I would’ve preferred a kombu-based shabu-shabu broth or something similar. I think the intention was to show off the beef itself, but it ended up tasting very bland.

Dish 7
Dish 7 — Tomato with mystery ingredient

Probably my favourite dish on the menu. Having us guess the mystery ingredient made it fun, and as someone who isn’t a huge fan of raw tomatoes, I thought this was excellent. It was also really refreshing after the previous dish.

Dish 8
Dish 8 — Beef bowl / Gyudon

We were basically told there was meat and rice and to take as much as we wanted, almost like a buffet. It was decent, but by this point the amount of wagyu was becoming too heavy.

Dish 9
Dish 9 — Ginger ice cream with mandarin

The ice cream was okay — nothing particularly memorable.

Dish 10
Dish 10 — Take-home beef bowl

The take-home beef bowl seemed to just be leftovers from the previous beef bowl in Dish 8.

Overall Thoughts

Honestly, I would give this place a skip. For the price and the amount of meat that is given. You can easily go to a Yakiniku place and get every cut of meat for way less money at the same quality beef. We earlier that week went to Hida to get Hida beef and ate till our stomaches were full and just at A5 meat and our bill was only ¥21,000 for two people. At ¥44,000 per person before drinks and for the amount of food I would dare to day its daylight robbery. Compared to other fine dining restaurants in Tokyo that can sit between ¥35,000 like Kabi, Maz and 81 Tokyo I would recommend those over Yakiniku Kappo no Oto every day of the week. The best dishes were the non-meat ones and the overall vibe of the meal felt lazy, especially for at a degustation restaurant to give you all you can eat of something just to fill you at the end of the meal, feels to me like they ran out of ideas. The creativity was quite low for something of this price as was too simple in my mind for this price point, for lower price point this would be a great meal but at ¥44,000pp I can’t say so.

The fact that when we sat next to the door that a cold strong breeze was coming through like standing in a wind tunnel the entire time was terrible and when we asked if we could close it they said the door wouldn’t close because was broken. There are two doors there and they refused to closed either is just bad customer service and we spent the entire meal slightly cool.

We ordered green tea while the first green tea that we were given was a great one the second one that they gave us was the colour of green tea but tasted off like dish soap and and the texture of thickened water. I thought maybe it was me but I gave it to my partner to also try and they said the same thing that something tasted “off” and it didn’t taste like the previous one they had served us. While they were great and replaced it and didn’t charge us for it. They didn’t even ask if we wanted a replacement and just gave us a new water instead of asking if we wanted a new drink.

There are much better places in Tokyo to spend your money, that offer better food, better service and a better vibe. I would if my tone hadn’t given it away a skip. I think the restaurant has a lot of good theatrics and “viral” moments that are good for photos and videos but that’s all the quality given outside of it is not worth it. You will be able to get much better quality food elsewhere, but if you’re for the photos and videos it’s a great place to go.
